Through a renovation process, the Metroparks Toledo Area was able to successfully extend the life of the National Center for Nature Photography, originally constructed in 1958 to meet the needs of the current park patrons. Limited by financial constraints it made more sense to renovate the existing facility than to demolish and reconstruct a new building.  The time that the facility could be taken off line also played into this decision since the rentable space provided a source of revenue to the Metropark system.

Through this renovation, the park district was able to gain additional gallery and classroom space for the National Center for Nature Photography by rearranging the existing floor plan. We worked with the Owner to renovate and upgrade the large multipurpose rentable space and enhance the visitor’s experience. Public facilities were upgraded and the heating system was replaced with new HVAC controls.

The second floor was originally designed to house a line-in park ranger with separate entry independent of the center. A new interior access to the second floor was also created to allow patrons use of the space without having to go outside into harsh winter conditions.
